Phoenix BULK TRASH PLACEMENT RULES
The Bulk Trash Schedule provides a strict timeline of when bulk trash may be placed for collection. City ordinance allows nine days prior to the scheduled collection week to place bulk trash out. It is a violation of city ordinance to place trash out before the listed “Placement Begins On” date.
What can you put in bulk trash?
Bulk trash collection is a quarterly service provided by the Phoenix Public Works Department as part of your residential trash and recycling service.
Bulk trash consists of materials that are too large to fit in the garbage or recycling container. Materials such as furniture, large appliances and large amounts of vegetation are often considered bulk trash.
WHAT BULK TRASH CREWS DO NOT PICK UP
• More than 20 cubic yards per residence, or a pile the size of a SUV.
• Loose debris and litter. Please sweep or rake area after collection, if necessary.
• Loose grass, leaves, weeds, twigs and hedge clippings. These items must be bagged or boxed and securely tied to be collected.
• Household hazardous waste, such as antifreeze, pool chemicals, oil, batteries and paint.
• Community piles. • Materials such as bricks, concrete, dirt, rocks, asphalt and roofing shingles/tiles.
• Construction materials in excess of 25 pounds or over four feet long.
• Metal or car parts in excess of 20 pounds or over four feet long.
• Tires, any shape or size.
• Glass such as windows, shower doors, patio doors, mirrors, fluorescent tubes, etc.
• Appliances that use refrigerants such as freezers, refrigerators, and air conditioners.
Holidays
Holidays with a change in collection day include: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The city will be working to collect trash and recycling as regularly scheduled for the following holidays: Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day.
Bulk Green Organics
Consider the Curbside Green Organics program offered to eligible residents.
The city of Phoenix is expanding the types of green organics landscapers and residents can divert. Items now include: tree branches, limbs and stumps not to exceed four feet in length and 24 inches in diameter (when taken directly to the transfer stations), pyracantha, oleander and creosote.
The items are taken to the city’s new state-of-the-art compost facility. With a City Services bill, showing solid waste service, Phoenix residents can bring up to one ton of material, including green organics, once per month to either the North Gateway or the 27th Avenue transfer stations for free. Curbside Green Organics customers can now put these materials in their tan container.
To find out if your neighborhood is eligible for this program visit phoenix.gov/publicworks and click on “Composting in Phoenix” where you will find information about this program and other waste diversion programs offered by the city. You also can call 602-262- 6251 to find out if your household is eligible.
Bulk trash was picked up earlier than the schedule. I am south of Pinnacle Peak Road. Schedule says 12/7 for starting pick up. Trash was removed on 12/2. I have more to put out over the weekend for 12/7 pick up. Can that happen??
Are you in Area 3? I checked the schedule and it definitely says Dec. 7. My best “guess” is that they will come out again but if you want to call them to make sure their number is 602-262-7251.
Hello,
We have a transformer out in front right where we are supposed to place our bulk trash. The first time we participated in Bulk pickup, the city wouldn’t pick it up because it was placed behind the transformer being too far up on our property. Last time we had to wait until the day of to place everything outside, at the end of our driveway without blocking sidewalk.
Is there another place we can put it to avoid this problem again?
How about right in front of the transformer on the edge of the street?
I’m going to replace an old cedar plank fence. Will the old fence be picked up? What if the sections are cut up into smaller pieces? It is 60 feet long section.
Hi Richard….yes you should cut the sections up so they can easily be picked up with a forklift….try to make it as easy as possible for the city crew!
How do we get information of dates of pickup for 9. Why the heck is it not listed
Hi Kris….thanks for the comment. I just updated the dates for every area in Phoenix but the Map only shows Shea Blvd. and North. The reason for that is because that’s the limit of the service area for the North Phoenix Buyers Club. Thank you again!
